Gabrielle Anderson LMFTLicensed Marriage Family Therapist, Director Family Therapy Center of Northern Virginia, llc
If I could tell you one thing about how I approach therapy, it is:
I’ve worked with hundreds of families and couples in this area seeking marriage counseling, or dealing with issues related to divorce and separation, blended families, infidelity, and the major life transitions that are a part of the stresses surrounding these issues. When I treat couples, the relationship is seen as the client. I make every attempt to help each spouse or significant other feel heard and supported.
Hi. I am Gabrielle Anderson, a licensed therapist and Director of Family Therapy Center of Northern Virginia, LLC in Ashburn, Virginia. I began my private practice in Lansdowne in 2004. In February of 2013 I expanded my services and formed Family Therapy Center of Northern Virginia, LLC. We truly enjoy the opportunity to help children, teens, couples and families find peace within themselves and their relationships. Prior to moving to this area, I received my Masters Degree in Marriage and Family Therapy and treated a variety of mental health populations in Savannah, GA.
Specialties/Areas of Practice:
I generally see good people just struggling with life. Struggles tend to be driven by divorce, illness, anxiety, and distance within core relationships.
I began my practice providing play, art and talk therapy for children, teens and their families. Parents began to ask for appointments for themselves and I began to incorporate adults into the mix. This then evolved into seeing adults as couples as well. I have thoroughly enjoyed the evolution of my practice and welcome new change and an opportunity to learn new things and grow.
I treat many clients dealing with relational and family issues, acute or chronic illnesses and major life transitions, including divorce. Stress and anxiety may be the major issue on the table, or can certainly complicate other problems we face. I view myself as a Lyme and PANDAS literate therapist. I have seen the power of these infections in my practice as well as have been directly impacted by them in my personal life.
Many of the children and adolescents I see present difficulties with major family transitions, depression, anxiety, ADHA, OCD, chronic illnesses, eating disorders and self harm. Parents are seen as integral to the therapeutic process. Communicating with parents about progress or difficulties at home as well as issues processed in the session is vital to my family approach.
I enjoy giving lectures and have offered workshops over the years free of charge to mom’s groups, community programs, school counselors and more. I enjoy sharing information and learning from others in the process as well. Some of the workshops I have offered include:
Navigating Families Mindfully Through Divorce
Reconnecting with the Woman Inside the Mom
Early Signs of Depression in Children & Teens
Behavior Modification Systems for Children
